• Mobility problems

• Post-operative urinary drainage

• Persistent expulsion of urethral catheter

• Urethral trauma

• Urethral stricture

• Prostatic obstruction

• Urodynamic investigation

Advantages of suprapubic catheterisation over urethral catheterisation:

• REDUCED urinary tract infections

• Causes no DAMAGE to the urethra

• No EROSION of the urethra

• Patients often find them more comfortable and easier to look after, resulting in HIGHER quality of life

• They are usually easier to change

• They may be less likely to get blocked

• Sexual intercourse is easier with a suprapubic catheter
